Egle Babilaite atelier logo

Extraordinary, beautiful, sumptuous, intelligent and interesting. All these epithets can be applied when referring to the art of Egle Babilaite. A magnificent example of the "intellectual painting". Full of talent, without a doubt. Watch, enjoy ...

About me

Eglė Babilaitė

l am the one who is a vagabond. One of my last works is a huge picture in relief created in a public space, 15 m x 11 m in size. When working on it, I was joking that I have no constant place for my work. With the changing living surroundings-countries and towns - the idea of having a more constant personal space comes true in one's imagination - and during certain stretches of time, full of surprises and including new acquaintances and friends. For an unlimited time, I settled in the south of France, in the mountains. There I discovered a setting that associates with me, and the River Var. After a drought, the river’s sprawling veins wind around obstacles, gnawing a way along new invisible routes hidden from the scourging sun. What a joy to me are these visiting libertine birds of motley feather.

Atelier

Egle Babilaite’s atelier is located in the PHaute-Savoie of France. The creative workshop has been working since 2012. The projects that are being carried out in the workshop differ in size, from small to large scale paintings and plastic sculptures for interior, exterior as well as other spaces in private houses, villas, hotels and commercial buildings. Carrying out the different types and scopes of projects has provided the atelier with an eminent experience of work with architects and interior designers.

The size of a team working on a project varies from 5 to 30 people, depending on the complexity of the task, its’ size and the requested completion time. The team completes every part of the project, from the preparatory work to assembling and installation. The specific lighting is selected for each project individually. The projects are carried out across the world.

I have tried to stop moments many times. And I failed. They shift and change into the different ones. One moment supersedes another. They cannot be caught. Now, I only attempt to feel and live them out.

Sketches

I am a collector of images. I look for a non-classical painting solution. That is how the relief that I mould, form, tap, patter, planish and polish came to be. I can tell an ambiguous story through the texture.

I transfer information through a look of a bird. I can sharpen and soften it. I do whatever I please with it and it still is a bird. But am I still a human?

Diary

Denis Malykh

The work of this Lithuanian artist is unique in many aspects. Egle works in a rare plastic and volumetric painting technique. It is this technique that makes each of her paintings, frescoes and ornaments exceptional.Initially, the structure, the landscape of the canvas is formed with the help of a volumetric material and only then does the artist begin the "finishing". It is not only the paint that is applied onto the canvas. In her latest works ...

Inside the fantasy of a moving silence

In the heart of the impassable forest, we met the work of Eglė Babilaitė ... The peculiarity of the environment is necessary for the viability of her creation, whether on the edge of the Baltic or at the gates of Provence. Having escaped from rigorous academic studies completed in her native Lithuania, and without denying this, Eglė quickly became a mobile and travelling artist. Her travels from Vilnius to Kaliningrad, Reykjavik, Sakhnas, ...
